Palo Alto, CA - - On July 11, 2012 at 11:20 p.m., officers from the Palo Alto Police Department responded to a business alarm at JJ & F Market at 520 College Avenue. Arriving units encountered a subject hiding behind a tree to the rear of the business. Police detained the subject without incident. Further investigation revealed that the suspect, 31-year-old Gustavo Alvarez of Palo Alto, broke into the business through a rooftop skylight. The skylight glass was broken and set aside so that the suspect could rappel into the store using black satellite dish cable. Once inside the store, the alarm sounded, causing the suspect to flee out of a rear door and over a barbed wire fence, where he was detained by an arriving sergeant.
The suspect is not believed to have stolen anything. Police booked the suspect into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on one count of burglary.
