On July 10, 2010 the City Council authorized staff to proceed with a Rail Corridor Study to generate a community vision for land use, transportation, and urban design opportunities along the Caltrain corridor, particularly in response to improvements to fixed rail services along the tracks through Palo Alto. The study may address some High Speed Rail issues, but is expected to provide a vision and context for and the City’s land use, transportation and urban design response within the corridor to a range of potential fixed rail improvements. The City Council also directed staff to form a Task Force representing seventeen key stakeholders to provide input to the study and to solicit information from the broader community. The Task Force members would also be a source for sharing information with the community at large, both formally and informally.
